Ajloun cable car: planning a ride above the northern hills
Plan an Ajloun cable-car outing with advice on tickets, maintenance closures, boarding needs and timing, plus ideas for combining the ride with the castle.

The Ajloun cable car offers a different way to see northern Jordan's hills: a moving view across the landscape rather than a route walked on the ground. Treat the ride as one part of an outing, allowing time for boarding, any queues and onward transport as well as the journey in the cabin.
What the ride offers
The Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association describes a 2.5-kilometre route linking the Ajloun Castle area with Eshtafina. Its overview gives an approximate round-trip ride time of 20 minutes and describes cabins accommodating up to eight passengers. These figures help explain the scale of the attraction, but they are not a promise of how long your entire visit will take. Source: JITOA's Teleferic Ajloun overview.
Use the journey to notice the relationship between wooded slopes, open land and the roads winding through the hills. If you are also visiting the castle, the changing perspective can add context to the hilltop setting you see from its walls.
Check operation before buying around a fixed schedule
The Jordan News Agency reported in April 2026 that the operator's routine maintenance protocol closes the cable car on the first Tuesday of each month. Confirm the arrangements for your actual date rather than assuming that a general daily-opening listing overrides maintenance. Source: Petra news agency's maintenance announcement.
Published visitor information is not fully consistent on opening times and non-Jordanian fares. A local Ajloun visitor guide explicitly notes differences between language versions of the operator's information. For that reason, confirm the current price, first boarding time and final return departure through the operator before travelling. Source: local Ajloun cable-car visitor information.
Also ask whether conditions on the day could interrupt operation and what happens to a booking if rides are suspended. Avoid booking onward transport with no margin after the advertised closing time.
Match the booking to your group
Before paying, establish whether the ticket covers a return ride, how children's fares are defined and whether optional activities are charged separately. Save the booking confirmation and check whether everyone needs identification for their ticket category.
If you use a wheelchair, travel with a pushchair or need boarding assistance, describe those needs directly to the operator. JITOA presents the cabins as accessible, but that broad description does not answer every question about your equipment, the station approach or assistance on the day. Ask about the complete journey from drop-off to cabin and back.
Follow station staff's boarding instructions and keep belongings secure. Plan a meeting point for your group before joining a queue, particularly if you may travel in different cabins. Leave time for a drink or rest afterwards rather than immediately rushing to the next attraction.
Combine the ride with one well-planned stop
The Ajloun Castle guide can help you plan a heritage visit alongside the ride. Confirm the transport between entrances and each attraction's separate ticket arrangements; the cable-car description does not mean that you step straight into the castle.
For an alternative cultural stop, consider a booked visit to Ajloun's Soap House. Choose activities around confirmed availability rather than packing every possibility into one day. Our Jordan transport guide explains the wider choices for reaching the region and arranging a return journey.
